There is no state or official religion, but most Carthyans believe that most people are generally good and on the road to joining the Saints in the afterlife – their concept of heaven. However, the devils will target certain people or even lay claim to them, and bring whatever misery is necessary into their life for their personal entertainment. Hence the saying, “The devils have you.”
Variations of this belief exist in the surrounding countries, though Avenia and Gelyn aren’t particularly religious places and Mendenwal is much stronger in the belief of an afterlife of rest with the Saints.

Hi Mrs.Nielsen, I'm a huge fan of the Ascendance series, and love all of your work.But my question is, I have a character in my book ,she kind of does what Wilta does in Captive Kingdom and pretends to be on the other side, but against her will and she forced to betray her friends who trusted her and she uses them.But she doesn't exactly have a choice.So would she be a protagonist or an antagonist?Thank you so much!

Hi Ms. Nielsen! Have you read any fanfictions for the Ascendance series? I just read the one that won the contest on your blog and wondered how you feel about fanfiction! (ps, author of that fanfiction if you’re out there, I liked it so much and never thought I’d agree with a Roden/oc ship. The jarogen scenes were perfect!)
