imaan asked Alice Oseman:

What kept you motivated to write while you were in high school and writing your first novel? What advice would you, as a young author, give to someone who is good at writing, but doesn't have that much motivation to keep writing a big story and then turn it into a book one day? In your opinion, what is more important for the story: the plot or the characters and their journey through the book?

Alice Oseman 1. I just loved the story! I wanted to finish it so I could read the whole thing as a complete story.
2. Write whatever you'd like to read, and don't give up when you feel it getting hard or boring. If you find yourself getting bored with your story, change things up - throw in a plot twist, a new character, a different setting, etc.
3. Personally I think characters are more important. If I don't care about the characters, I'm not going to care about the plot, no matter what happens!
