Sebbanite asked Andrew Rowe:

Hi Andrew, I recently powered through some of your work and loved it. Can't wait for the 3rd installment for the arcane ascension series this year. Questions is what advice would you have for an individual who has the bucket list goal of wanting to write their own EPIC fantasy adventure web novel. Start practicing with short stories or just jump straight into it? Any good places to learn?

Andrew Rowe I strongly recommend watching Brandon Sanderson's lecture series on youtube. He's an excellent teacher and the youtube class is free to watch.

In terms of short stories vs. novels, it really depends on your own style. The pacing for a short story is totally different, and I personally didn't enjoy doing them as practice or find it super helpful.

Like Sanderson, I wrote several novels before I ever actually published one. This is relatively common, but these days, there's a pretty good alternative if you want faster feedback: writing a web serial. Sites like Royal Road are good options if you want to try writing something for practice and seeing how readers respond to it. I recommend taking a look at some examples over on that site or similar sites before you attempt one on your own, but keep it in mind as an option if you don't feel ready to tackle a full novel yet.
