Goodreads asked Jennifer Lynn Cary:

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

Jennifer Lynn Cary Wow, that's a great question.
My maternal grandfather came home one evening to tell my pregnant grandmother he had one more thing to take care of, then he'd be right back. This was in October of 1928 in Al Capone's Chicago. He left and never came home. In March, his body was found washed up from Lake Michigan and my grandmother identified him by his teeth and the buttons she'd sewn on his jacket. I've often thought that would make a compelling mystery story. We have a few ideas, but nothing concrete for details.
Again, thanks for asking.
