Goodreads asked Marilyn Sadler:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Marilyn Sadler I am having a wonderful time being an author. And I’ve been able to experience so many exciting adventures because of it.

When Alistair’s Elephant first came out, I was invited to England to speak to a class of English school children at the London Zoo, where I shared the stage with a baby elephant.

Simon and Schuster published a book of mine titled, “Zenon, Girl of the 21st Century”, which the Disney Channel subsequently bought and turned into 3 live-action original movies for the Disney Channel.

Disney also bought a preschool show, which I created with Roger Bollen, called Handy Manny, about an Hispanic handyman and his talking tools, which aired for 6 years on Preschool Disney.

I got to fly to California for the premier of the show in a Los Angeles theater and meet the voice of Handy Manny, actor, Wilmer Valderrama. And when Handy Manny was nominated for an Emmy, I got to wear a pretty dress and feel like a movie star at the Emmy Awards Ceremony.

I love what I do. I feel so lucky to be able to create characters and tell their stories, getting lost in worlds of my own design.

But truly, the best part of all is having an opportunity to bring joy into the lives of children. Many of my books have been around since the 1980s and I often hear from adults, who now have children and grandchildren of their own, that they are sharing my books with them! That's 3 generations of children! Nothing could be more gratifying than that!
