So rereading Penric and the Fox, the first scene kinda of made me think about Memory and Miles ans Simon fishing scene... and it made me wonder about it. Fishing for these two set of characters seemed to be the perfect excuse to drink cold alcoholic beverage under the sun. I've never fished in my life so I have no clue, but I wondered where it comes from ? Personnal experience, inside joke, writer's licence?

Well, I've done very little fishing myself, and no drinking along-with, but I know many people do. Fishing is big here in Minnesota, in all weathers. A painter I once had joked, "I don't have to go ice fishing -- my wife lets me drink at home!"
But any occasion where characters can sit down together makes a good setting for story-advancing dialogue, from meals to being trapped on a boat.

I've tried to picture what a nerve-disruptor would look like, and find a conflict between descriptions of it's parabolic bell-shaped muzzle and the ease with which wielders of the weapon are able to holster and aim them. I appreciate that it would loom larger-than-life for anyone looking down the business-end of one and that most descriptions are from that perspective. How big are they really?
