Goodreads asked Jay Zigmont:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Jay Zigmont In doing the work to become a CFP® professional, I found that there was never once a mention of being Childfree in the financial literature and education. 11% of the US over 55 are Childfree, so the fact that a large segment of the population is underrepresented and underserved was a big question.

I decided to put my qualitative researcher hat on and dive in to see what it is really like to live a life of Childfree Wealth (spoiler, it means you have the time, money, and freedom to do what you want). I ended up surveying 300+ Childfree people and interviewing nearly 30. In my interviews, I found these really compelling stories about the impact of being Childfree on your life, wealth, and finances.

I originally planned on putting out a pure personal finance book first, but the stories (which I call Portraits) were just so compelling that I decided to share those first. In "Portraits of Childfree Wealth" I ended up sharing 26 stories of people from the US from 22 to 52. They were all surprisingly open and shared their challenges and successes. I am just a narrator to guide the reader and I am very happy that they allowed me to share their life stories.
