I've never been totally blocked, but I've been stymied, at times. This is particularly tough when you're almost finished with a novel and don't know how to end it. As I recall, Hemingway had something to say about his fear of a blank page. I can understand that fear. The only way I know of to overcome it is to keep writing, even if you think what you're writing is no good. You can always come back later and fix it. Just keep on writing.

Just came across a wonderful paragraph on p. 103 of "Devil," Gary. It elevates the whole novel beyond the mystery/procedural genre. This is Marcia speaking: "Lately, I've been thinking a lot about my life and career. At some point I made a crucial decision. Putting up all my talent and skill as collateral, I borrowed beauty from nature and invested her precious treasure in my art....(ran out of space)?

Hello! I am currently reading "The Hanged Man" (read "The Devil in Montmartre" last year) - hope you can answer a question for me. I'm having a problem with the forensic photog's last name: Gilles. Is it hard "g" (like "gone"), or soft "g" (like "giraffe" or the letter "j" in "James") -- rhymes with "while" ... or hard "g" and 2 syllables (like "gill-less"). Every time I get to it, my brain stumbles LOL Help?
