Goodreads asked Wendy Wax:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Wendy Wax Claire Walker, a writer character in my novel WHILE WE WERE WATCHING DOWNTON ABBEY, suffers from writer's block just when she finally has the opportunity to write full time. But in truth, I don't believe in writer's block. Or maybe I should say I am unwilling to give in to writer's block.

I've learned that the best solution is to sit down in front of the computer and write. Sometimes I simply put the characters on the page and free write dialogue between them -- no censoring or editing-- I just let them speak to each other. In that moment it doesn't matter exactly what I write, only that I put words on the page. When I look at it the next day there's always something there that I can work with. It might only be a paragraph or two. Or an idea or thought. The point is to write. Period.
