Goodreads asked Cynthia Sharp:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Cynthia Sharp I've never had writer's block per se, though people often ask me, "How do you start?" Personally, I find that tea, nature, exercise, reading and opening the project always get me going. Even if I don’t believe they will. Even if all I do is reread what I have so far, or find words in the dictionary, or names I like online, or look at pictures so captivating I have to describe them and create a world where that beauty can live. Even if I just open the character description page and work on those notes for myself for what little time I have each day, for years, until there is enough for a poem, or screenplay, or TV show. Buy books on writing and do the exercises. Learn the rules. Then break them whenever you feel like it. Read out loud with students, friends, your partner or yourself. Listen to poets reading aloud, either online or in real life. Breathe. You’re on the way!
