Christiane
Christiane asked Benedict Jacka:

Did you greenlight Will Watt's pronunciation of "sigil"? With stories that have outlandish names or magic systems, I hope the authors guide the narrator somewhat. But I expect that there's not a narrow norm; some authors are probably much more involved in the narrator-selection-and-grooming process than others. Where do you like to be on this spectrum?

Benedict Jacka I didn't greenlight it; I specifically told him to pronounce it that way! The word is "sigl", not "sigil", and while they look very similar, they actually mean quite different things and have quite different origins. "Sigil" is Latin in origin and refers to a sign or symbol, while "sigl" is an Old English word for a gemstone.
