Josh Dietrich
Josh Dietrich asked Josh Sundquist:

Do you have any formal training as an author? I mean schooling or any type of class? If not how did you get your books published without going the self published route? Also you're really awesome but I think you knew that fact already!

Josh Sundquist In fact, I self-published two books before JDF and WSHOS. But self-publishing actually make is *much* harder to make real publishers take you seriously. So that was a hurdle for me in getting JDF published.

But as for formal training, I read a lot of books about writing. Out of the 16 people who applied for a 15-person book-writing seminar in college, I was the only person who got rejected. Not that I'm bitter or anything or still talk about in in Q&A's to this day.

As John Green says, "The apprenticeship available to writers is reading." So I think you just have to read a lot of the kind of stuff you want to write and learn how successful authors craft their works.
