Tami Hoag Hi, Valerie-- I started out writing short contemporary romance in part because I enjoyed reading the genre, in part because the format and structure of those books forced me to have discipline, and in part because that was a great place to break into the business. I got a tremendous education in the business of writing that way. Then I wanted to do longer more complex books, and found myself transitioning into romantic suspense. Then I wanted to explore the darker side of the human psyche and write a grittier book, and here I am. So, it was a natural progression.
