Could “The boy and His Dragon” be read as a standalone or should I start from book 1 for the story to make sense?

When it first came out, I don't think most readers knew it was connected to the first story at all. So reading it on its own should be fine. While the Being(s) universe does feature cameos from other characters or little Easter eggs, the stories are not dependent on one another (except Some Kind of Magic and Forget-Me-Not). For example, Treasure for Treasure and His Mossy Boy take place one right after the other, but lots of people read either one independently. :) All you really need to know for A Boy and His Dragon is that there are humans and then there are the magical creatures existing alongside them.

I'm a big fan of your writing style (as well as your stories, characters, and worlds therein)! I would love to hear more about your process. Have you done any writer interviews I can read/watch where you talk about this sort of thing? Also, how do you go about choosing your subject/plot/characters when you're starting to write a book?
