Kathryn asked Mindee Arnett:

What inspired you to craft the Avalon universe?

Mindee Arnett The Avalon universe was inspired/built around the metatech itself, both how it's used in the world at large and how it real is (as in the big secret reveal). That said, the real world inspirations came from both the oil crisis of 2008 and coral bleaching. Too completely, different things, I know, but they did the trick for my imagination. With the oil crises, I wanted a world that reflected our modern world where energy is controlled by a very small few, all the "big oil" stuff. These guys play have a huge influence in US politicians and they go out of their way to roadblock viable alternative fuel sources. I wanted the world of Avalon to have the same kind of self-serving entity in both the ITA and in Hammer. For the coral bleaching, well that has more to do with the secret reveal. So I'll leave that off for fear of spoilers. But I *think* that the parallels are pretty obvious within the books.

Thank you so much for a wonderful question and thank you for reading!
