Evelyn (devours and digests words)
Evelyn (devours and digests words) asked Nenia Campbell:

Hi Nenia.. How do you deal with harsh reviews? Do you start self-doubting? If yes, how do you get over it? And where do you get your inspiration to write?

Nenia Campbell 1. Unless I really know the person who wrote the harsh review, I don't comment. Sometimes there's valuable criticism hidden in there, but usually it's just the person's impression of my book, and their impression was that they didn't like it. No biggie. :P

2. YES. I am Queen of Self-Doubt. But I usually assume everyone is going to hate my work anyway, and as soon as I publish and the good reviews start rolling in, I relax a bit, and think, "Oh, this isn't so bad. They're crazy, rating me so highly when I clearly suck, but how nice of them to do that! Today is a good day. :D"

3. I get inspired from everything- life, work, the books I've read, the people I've met, dreams, etc. Synthesis is a huge part of successful writing: putting two (or more) previously unrelated components together in a way that they suddenly make sense. I'm all about that synthesis.
