Goodreads asked Stephen S. Power:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Stephen S. Power My colleague at Wiley--later my agent and now, oddly enough, my competitor at another, bigger business publisher--said one day of a book his son was reading, "Why would someone write a kid's book without a dragon?" I responded, "Why would someone write a book for anyone without a dragon?" I then went back to my officle and outlined "The Dragon Round."

It's modeled on "The Count of Monte Cristo," but "Jaws" and "Breaking Bad" were also highly influential.

It's the first in a series of books that each depict a pivotal moment in the relationship between humans and dragons, just as each oral history in "World War Z" depicts a pivotal moment in the zombie war.
