How do you get inspired to write?

Lise MacTague Inspiration comes in a couple of different forms for me. The first way is through "what if" questions. What ifs intrigue me and often serve as the basis for either a plot point, or a character. From there, I figure out how to work the plot point, or character into the larger story.

I also have an active dream life, which probably sounds kind of hinkty, but I remember my dreams and they tend to be very vivid. I've gotten ideas for characters and for scenarios from those. The basis for Jak Stowell's character in Depths of Blue (and the sequel novels) came from a dream I had.

Some ideas go nowhere, but others become more concrete story ideas. I'll probably work some ideas into other stories.
