Goodreads asked Janet Chester Bly:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Janet Chester Bly The idea for the Trails of Reba Cahill series came after several decades of hit and miss trying this story line and then that. Back in 1991 I began with a redheaded cowgirl and she went through many revisions and all kinds of backgrounds and adventures until I finally had the time and incentive to settle her down. The whole series takes place the summer of 1991--since that's when she was conceived in my mind--and it's the trials and turning points she faced at age 25 that made her what she would eventually be when she grew up. I was thinking of a time in my own life when the choices I made and realizations I faced forever changed me. That's what that summer was for Reba too.
