From your mind to the retail shelves what are the distinct time sinks and what amount of time does each component or activity take in your typical process to publication?

Alyssa Maxwell Hi John. I can only speak for my part of the process, as my publisher has their own schedule in bringing the book to completion, and some of their activities begin long before I've handed in the book. It takes me six months to complete a project, from character development and plotting (several weeks), to first draft (about four to five months), to editing and polishing in the last few weeks.
