Goodreads asked Janice Dembosky:

How do you get inspired to write?

Janice Dembosky I admit that I lacked commitment and inspiration when I was a working mother. It was just too exhausting and even in summers, I was busy carting kids here and there and attending their games, etc. I wouldn't have missed that. Most of my stories were oral back then--stories made up for my children, embellishments of life's little catastrophes for friends, funny anecdotes. People would say, "You are so funny. I love your stories." But, oddly, when I sat down to put my story-telling on paper, I found that humor is not my genre. I was inspired to write any time I had a day laying out before me like a blank page.
