Brittany ☻ asked Josh Sundquist:

I scrolled through all the questions searching for one about why you chose to write about yourself and your experience in life? ... But I couldn't find one where you answered that question directly, and perhaps you did and I missed it, but I'm still going to ask you again anyway... I'm choosing to read one of your books (WSHOS) for a school project and it would be helpful to my research if you answered. (: Thank You.

Josh Sundquist Hi Brittany -- I just like reading and writing books. And memoir was a natural place for me to start because I talk about myself for a living as a motivational speaker. But in a deeper sense, in both JDF and WSHOS I was essentially writing about emotionally painful experiences. And I think there's a sense in which if you can write about such an experience and other people can find meaning in that writing, the experience itself can become a little less painful and a little more meaningful because it has served a purpose for other people (that is, readers)
