Hi Darren. How long did it take you to write your first book and how long did you spend trying to get it published?

Darren Shan I've actually written lots of books that haven't been published. I started working on novels at a very young age, and even though I was equipped to write a good one at 17,18, 19 and 20, I went ahead and finished first drafts anyway, learning huge amounts by making lots of mistakes. The first one I ended up publishing, Procession Of The Dead, took five years from start to finish. Getting published was a long, difficult process, but having a strong agent helped immeasurably.
