Cynthia Shannon
Cynthia Shannon asked Rin Chupeco:

With whom do you share your first drafts? Who gets the first read on a new book?

Rin Chupeco I don't usually have beta readers for first drafts. My first drafts are disorganized and crazy and often veers away from the plot I originally had in mind, and I need to revise at least once to make it edible for reading.

Rebecca Podos, my agent, is usually the first person to read any completed drafts I have. She's THE person I listen to for edits she thinks are necessary, and I follow her advice about 98% of the time.

Two of my best friends are also avid book lovers, so once Rebecca approves I sometimes send the MS their way. I rely on Rebecca and her editor's eye for specific revisions, but I rely on my friends as readers to tell me whether or not they enjoy what I'd written, albeit in a more general way.

(Definitely not my husband, though. B-movies scare him.)
