Were you aware that you named one of the trafficked women Crystal which was the name of the girl from Burlington Vt ,Christal Jones, who was murdered in NYC while working as a prostitute? I immediately went online to BFP article by Sam Hemingway to confirm my recollection. (I have relocated to SC. Maybe I will see you in Savannah in Feb)

Hi, Susan!
Lovely to hear from you.
No, I had not recalled that news story when I was writing "The Guest Room." I was focused on international trafficking, not domestic, so it never crossed my mind.
I hope you are immersed in all the best ways in "The Guest Room." I miss Alexandra and Kristin especially now that I have finished the novel.
And it would be a delight to see you in Savannah! I'd be honored if you made the drive.
Have a great holiday season.
All the best,
Chris B.

I am halfway the Flight Attendant and I am loving it. Cassie character remind me of Leland Fowler (The laws of similar); she is getting more and more in trouble by doing one bad choices after another! My question is if you are going to write another historical fiction story like The Sandcastle Girls, Skeletons at the Feast or The Light in the Ruins? I loved those books and I would love to read new historical novel.

Why didn't we ask our grandparents before it was too late? My grandparents who escaped the death march never talked about it. The horrors were too vivid. Years after my grandfather died, I found out that he & all the villagers were locked in a church and the Turks burned it down. He was the only one who escaped. My Grandmother had 1 family portrait, how did she keep that on the death march? Why didn't we ask?

I attended your author event at the St Louis County Library last night and really enjoyed your talk. You mentioned that you don't know where the characters will take you when you write a book. Do you ever start to root for a character as he/she develops and then have a difficult time letting "bad" things happen to them?
