Laura Jaeckel
Laura Jaeckel asked Joshilyn Jackson:

I love that you narrate many of your own audiobooks. Are the physical voices you give your characters their own, or are they based on speech patterns and idiosynchracies of people in your life?

Joshilyn Jackson Thanks, Laura! A lot of my choices are dictated by my range. I can only go so deep without soundign strained, so high without getting REALLY irritating. :) SO I use accents and speech patterns as well as tone---but these are also limited by my range. I listen to a LOT of audiobooks and get speech pattern and tone ideas from actors I admire, and of course I use people I know as well, if they have distinctive ways of speaking. I am getting ready to record THE ALMOST SISTERS next week, so I loved running across this question now as I work to create voices. It was encouraging.
