I started The Guest Room yesterday and I totally love it! I am half way done and I do not want to put it down! But I do not want it to end because then it will be done! I have read all your books and some are more liked than others but this one will be in my memory bank for a long long time as one of your very best. I love that you always write about very different situations. So what will your next book be!?!?
Chris Bohjalian
Thank you, Wendy. I am thrilled you're enjoying "The Guest Room" and do not want to put it down. I love that feeling when I am devouring a novel.
I hope I never write the same book twice. That's not necessarily a goal, but it is a desire and it factors into the sorts of subject I tackle.
Now, there are definite threads that link all of my work: a sense of dread; that razor thin line between heartbreak and hope; and what my astute young daughter has observed is my "sweet spot: seriously messed up young women." (She was referring to Emily Shepard and Laurel Estabrook and Serafina Bettini and all of the young women in "The Sandcastle Girls." Certainly Alexandra fits rights in: another smart, courageous, and emotionally or physically scarred character.)
So, the next book? I hope it has all of that but will also be something a little new. It is about a woman with a rare parasomnia who goes missing. Stay tuned.
Thanks for asking.

Chris Bohjalian:
Dear Mr. Bohjalian, I have recently discovered your books, greatly enjoy them and am thrilled that you are so prolific. I am presently reading "The Night Strangers" and am struck by how difficult it is for these poor herbalists to find blood for their tinctures...because women do a fine job of producing their own blood. Especially, with a coven of women, cycling together. Why isn't this method used?

Hi Chris, I am a Goodreads Friend and have read many of your books. I am a member of Friends of the Needham Library in Needham, MA. In addition to many other things, we arrange for programs for the library. We are looking forward to planning during this season of mainly Zoom encounters. Would you consider speaking at a program with us? If so, I would appreciate a more private method for correspondence. Suggestions?
