Annie, the library was really, really important to me as a child - as I mentioned in a previous response, I had my first library card at 2 years of age. I knew I wanted to be a writer from the age of about 5 - but it took another 30 years for me to embark upon becoming a professional writer - mainly of essays and articles, written in the evenings and weekends because like most writers, I had a day job. Then I began to write my first novel at the age of 45. And thank you for your lovely comments about my work - I do appreciate it.

My neighbors and I read the first Maisie book in our book club group. I was so taken with Maisie and the wisdom that Maurice imparts to her in her lessons. His recommendation to give the silence as much weight as the answer is something we all can learn from. I just finished #5, will we learn why she took so long to visit Simon? It seemed out of character of one who is in love.

Thank you for sharing Maisie with me.. she has gotten me through some tough times. I am interested in her connection to the gypsies who were at the hop picking. Do gypsies, Roma, whatever you care to call this group have a big part in English history? Will they resurface in Masie's life? It seems like such a strong connection for her.
