Hi Marissa!
My family heritage affected my writing to a large extent. Growing up with a name like "Ruta Sepetys" was challenging at times. I was constantly having to explain my name and when I told people I was Lithuanian they didn't know where Lithuania was, or the fate the country had suffered. So in a way, writing "Between Shades of Gray" was also an exploration of my own identity. Thanks for asking!
