Shadowhunter's Library asked Shannon Messenger:

How did you come up with the idea for Let the Sky Fall?

Shannon Messenger It actually started with a word, which I know sounds weird. But I woke up one day with the word "Windwalker" in my mind, and it kept making me picture a teenage boy walking on the wind. I didn't know who he was or why I was thinking about him, but I couldn't get him out of my head. And later that morning a song came up on my iTunes called "The Haunting" by Anberlin and for some reason I just knew it was about that boy. It's a song about someone being haunted by the memory of a lost love, and I decided to take that more literal and have my boy character actually being haunted. But I didn't want it to be a ghost story. I wanted the girl to be shadowing him because she had to protect him. A few hours later another song came up that helped me create Audra's character (I won't tell you which one because it would spoil a couple of things) and after a few hours of brainstorming I had most of Vane and Audra's story imagined. It's honestly the fastest I've ever come up with an idea.
