bookishdoll asked Nenia Campbell:

Do you have anything that helps you write better? Like music or background noise? Maybe not necessarily write 'better' but maybe something that gets you in the right mindset? Also, was it hard to find a publisher who was interested? I want to write myself, but I find myself hesitant cause I'm not sure how difficult or easy it is to find someone who's interested.

Nenia Campbell Hi! I make playlists for most of my books, although I don't usually listen to music while I actually write (I get distracted easily). I also read a lot - it's super helpful to see both what good writing looks like & what bad writing looks like.

I'm actually not published, but self-published. I think it can be very difficult to find a publisher who is interested. Every so often I will query, but I don't have a lot of free time to do that at the moment. I've heard that the road to success is paved with rejection slips, so I guess my advice is keep writing but also have a backup plan, too. Find something else that sustains you that you don't mind doing so you can support yourself while you write!
