Mike Hamilton
Mike Hamilton asked Christopher Moore:

What do you think is the reason that Shakespeare's writings have stayed so popular after all these years? Also in English class we are watching Othello whilst we read it, Do you have a favorite Othello movie or a favorite Shakespeare movie in general?

Christopher Moore I think the language and the insight to character that has kept Shakespeare alive. He says things about the human condition so concisely and beautifully sometimes that I don't think we've found anything close to replacing his work. As I say in the afterword of one of my Shakespeare books, when your working with Shakespeare, everything you come up with, you find that Shakespeare said it more succinctly, more beautifully, and often in rhyme.

I like the Globe Theater's film of Othello with Eamon Walker and Zoey Tapper. I saw it in London when I was researching Fool, and I think it was probably responsible for my writing The Serpent of Venice (which encompasses Othello). You can get the discs from Netflix or buy them from the Globe Theater web site. It's the full text, so over 3 hours long. The Fishburne Othello is okay to look at, but the text if very condensed. The BBC Anthony Hopkins one is so dreadful you might take a look at it for a laugh.
