Rory asked Ian Doescher:

As someone who has only dabbled in Shakespeare, (Mainly through Macbeth) I feel it's because I'm mostly turned off by the old time language which is too cryptic for my tastes. Regardless where would you say is a good place to start in terms of his plays, so I am able to get used to his writing style?

Ian Doescher Starting with a comedy like Much Ado About Nothing might be good -- it's pretty easy to follow. Also, I *highly* recommend either reading aloud with friends or watching a film adaptation first so you have at least the broad outline of what's going on. Good luck!
