Teresa asked B.A. Paris:

Your book was incredibly hard to put down, and I cried with Grace, raged with Grace, and felt so helpless with Grace. You are an incredible writer. I could not figure out how Esther, who barely knows Grace, came to the conclusions she did at the end of the story. You showed Esther seeming to doubt things Grace said, but it would have been difficult to come to the correct conclusions. So how'd she do this?

B.A. Paris Thank you so much! Esther is one of those intuitive people who just seem to know when something isn't quite right. But it is really at Millie's birthday party, when she says her favourite colour is yellow, that Esther realises something very wrong. She asks Jack why he has always maintained that Millie's favourite colour is red and she isn't convinced when he says he must have made a mistake. Also for the first time, Grace can't hide how upset she is and Esther sees this. She thinks back to all the other little things and adds them all together.
