Azura Nightsong asked Shannon Messenger:

Heloooooooo. I really like to write but i have a hobbit (yes a hobbit) of never finishing what i write. Or starting to build a world and never finishing that. Or starting a project and never finishing it. Any advice? Thank you for your time!

Shannon Messenger Hm, this is probably not going to be the answer you want, but...there's really no way to trick yourself into staying motivated. That comes down to you and your own determination.

Writing is hard. Finishing a book is even harder. And the only way to get through it is to decide that it's what you want to do. You have to WANT to write all the way to the ending. You have to tell yourself, "I'm not going to stop, no matter what." And then you have to not let yourself off the hook.

Sometimes it helps to make a writing schedule and map out how you're going to get to the end. Or send finished chapters to a friend, so they'll beg you for the next one. But no matter what, it always comes down to you to hold yourself accountable. Writing is work--but if you love it and want to be a writer then make yourself do the work.
