Gah, this is one of those things that's hard to answer because it's not really something I do consciously. Most of the time when I'm writing, I'm just asking myself, "okay, what is the character going to do now?" and the story comes from whatever answer I come up with. But I will say that story comes from conflict. You need to give your character problems to solve and challenges to face--usually the bigger the better. Happy writing.

My friends and I are in love with Kotlc! We're even making capes, registry pendants, and light leaping crystals! We were wondering if you had a set of rules for base quest? We found Fitz's description of it in the first book, but we'd love to have more specific instructions. When we first tried playing it, the questers would always get tagged pretty early in the game, so we thought you might have other rules. Thanks!
