Brandy asked Xavier Neal:

I've notice a trend in the physical appearance of you black female characters. You describe them as either Mocha or Coffee. Azura was the only one to be described different; however, she went caramel in Masterpiece to mocha in Unmask. Why do you stick with those to shades?

Xavier Neal I'll start with the Azura shade question, how someone might view the color mocha and caramel depends on the person. Sounds crazy but it happens all the time. Some people say pink others say rosey, it was along the same lines. Merrick viewed her skin tone as a caramel shade, and Drew viewed her as mocha. Perception sort of thing.

And I don't particularly like the labels of "brown skin" or "dark color skin" or terms of that nature. It's not my style. It's never been my style. I choose food descriptive colors, dessert related when possible. I've used "coffee" and "chocolate" as well as "creamy" and "vanilla". I don't believe in giving you a specific color persay. I try to allow the reader to have enough to make up their own minds.
