Goodreads asked B.C. Powell:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

B.C. Powell Make a commitment to finish a manuscript. A short story, novela, or full blown epic - it doesn't matter. As the saying goes... first drafts don't have to be perfect, they just have to be finished. My first drafts are awful. I do a lot of "telling" to get the story on paper, then go back and convert into "show", usually doubling or tripling manuscript length. But once you have a first draft completed, regardless of the quality, the sense of achievement will help you eventually get the story to where you want it. The key is to just make that commitment to get the first draft finished.
