My favorite fictional "couple" isn't really a couple and it doesn't come from a book, but a team and it's Cagney and Lacey, two women detectives in a very good television show that aired in the 1980s. Though they they lead very different lives, they cared about each other and the work they did as detectives. The show had some very good story lines and always had wonderful endings.
