Just binged both Forging Divinity and Stealing Sorcery over the last week. Absolutely love your work. I find what you're doing very inspiring. (being in the software/gaming development field and feeling the itch to follow a passion for fantasy writing.) Awaiting Defying Destiny with much anticipation. That said, what authors/books do you feel inspires your writing?

Thanks for the kind words and the question!
It's great to hear more software/game developers taking an interest in writing. I'll be interested in seeing what you come up with!
I tend to draw a lot of inspiration from other series with clear magical rules and a lot of detailed analysis. I enjoy virtually everything Brandon Sanderson writes - he's masterful at coming up with magic with clear limitations and interesting applications.
I also would strongly recommend the web serials Worm by John McCrae and Mother of Learning by Domagoj Kurmaic. They both have excellent world building and characters that apply their abilities creatively.
Will Wight has been a big inspiration for my style of writing anime-esque combat scenes (although Sanderson certainly played a role in that as well). His Traveler's Gate Trilogy is one of my favorites - and I think his Cradle series might turn out even better.
P.S. Defying Destiny is on the way, but I'll have another novel out even sooner. (A magical school novel in the same universe, but with a different cast.) I expect that novel, Attuned, to be out within about a month - so keep your eyes open!
