Kakari (kakari89) | 2 comments Cole and Showalter seem like really good friends and often collaborate. One example is how IAD characters show up in LoTU and vice versa. So, I'm wondering if I'll like Showalter's books if I like IAD? I've asked Amazon, and the crowd there said that Showalter was not up to par with Cole at all. I just want a second opinion here on Goodreads.

Ellen (shadowmaster13) | 113 comments Cole and Showalter have different styles in their writing. I like the IAD a lot more than the LoTU series, but some of the other series by Showalter are really enjoyable, I especially recommend the Alien Huntress series. And the recent LoTU spinoff about the angels is great.

They certainly aren't bad reads. The only way to be sure if you'll like them is to try.

Camilla (millaz) | 46 comments There's no doubt that IAD is better than LOTU, but if you like how Kresley writes, I'm pretty sure you would like LOTU too. Its kinda the same with the sexyness and humor mixed into it..

Nothing really beats IAD imo, but LOTU is great and I'm sure you would like it too. :)

Jessica (studioeastrat) | 77 comments I think that if you like IAD then you will like LOTU too. Both are on my auto buy list. Gena isn't quite as good as Kresley but they are still really fun sexy reads. Plus, Gena is a great world builder and her spin on the pandora's box story is super cool.

I think if you like Kresley Cole, you will enjoy Gena Showalter. Gena Showalter has her own vibe to her books, but they share a love of humor, sexy heroes, and hot love scenes. I think Showalter also has a great imagination like Cole.

Ren Puspita (renpuspita) | 164 comments I'm agree with Lady D. To be honest, I love Showalter more than COle. I'll already hooked by her Lords of The Underworld and I need some books to make me love IAD. The plus things is Gena write books more than Kresley, and she have contemporary romance, futuristic romance and also YA.

Kryptonite (sg34) | 88 comments I agree with you all.

I like IAD a lot more but if you enjoy reading IAD series then you'll enjoy LOTU as well.
I don't know about GS's other series. I read book 1 of the Alien Huntress and didn't care for it. I read her Atlantis series and like it but wasn't at the same level as her LOTU.

Liz Barrons-Kattalakis-Quiakides-Tehrror | 48 comments I really like both authors, I think it would be great if they collaborate, I'm a big fan of IAD, Alien Huntress, LOTU and Tales of an Extraordinary Girl. I think it would be very interesting and fun if they do write something together.

message 9: by Keltie (new)

Keltie | 2 comments I think Showalter is the poor man's Kresley Cole. Not even comparable.

message 10: by Kakari (new)

Kakari (kakari89) | 2 comments Hmm, I guess I'll try to find an excerpt for LoTU. =\ I already spent like about $100 on all the books in IAD . . . Ahhh.

They do have different styles but I like the books I've read by Gena.

message 12: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I like them both for different reasons and I have enjoyed both IAD and LOTU. I think the tone of LOTU is darker than IAD.

I started reading both around the same time, and I think they have a different voice although a similar vibe. I'm glad they both write because there are more excellent books for me to read. And I'm glad they are buds. I like to think my favorite writers get along. :)

message 14: by Arianne (new)

Arianne (biatchwithwifi) I read LotU because I ran out of IAD books to read and because I was curious about Nix's visit to Budapest. LotU started slow, the Darkest Night is not the strongest book in the series, but if you press on, I assure you that you will be rewarded with another awesome reading experience.
And if it did happen, collaboration between KC and GS, I'm praying so hard that it will be Nix and Torin!

I agree with you about The Darkest Night, Arianne. It's definitely weaker compared to the other books.

message 16: by Missyb (new)

Missyb | 42 comments I've read all the IAD books, but read the short story and then stopped a few chapters into book #1 of LOU. Don't know if it was the wrong time in life, but I just couldn't keep reading. Maybe I'll go back to LOU someday.

I hope you get back to it one day. I think the series is great, even if the first book isn't as good, Missy.

message 18: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Book #1 of the LOTU is not the best. Book #2 was much better and by book #4 I was hooked. Like many series, LOTU gets better which each installment.

Hope you try it again sometime.

Ditto! I really enjoyed reading the Darkest Whisper. Also, as I read along I anticipated to read more about William.

message 20: by Grace (new)

Grace | 5 comments I read the the first book and the Darkest Lie in the LOTU series and I didn't like them enough to keep me hooked. They are good books, but not as good as the IAD series.
I read the entire IAD series not stopping! The LOTU books I read them with an slowly pace.

message 21: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) @Arianne - I love William. Can't wait for him to get his own book.

@Grace - I'm also working my way through IAD. I don't tend to read books in a series one after the other because I get totally burned out on them and lose interest. I usually space them out one a month unless there is a cliffhanger and I just have to know what happens next but that is rare.

Lauren, same here. I need a break between books in a series, with rare exception.

message 23: by Quinky (new)

Quinky (quinkiez) | 26 comments Gena is a hit or miss for me, Kresley is definitely the stronger of the two.

message 24: by Kryptonite (new)

Kryptonite (sg34) | 88 comments Quinky, I agree with you. I've loved everything I've read of KC. Between the two I like Kresley a lot more. But I do still enjoy books by GS.

I like them both, although I like KC more. I think Gena Showalter is actually more prolific than KC, so that might have something to do with the hit or miss nature of her writing for fans.

message 26: by Kryptonite (new)

Kryptonite (sg34) | 88 comments That's true too. Considering GS has a lot more books out there.
But I read books from KC's 2 other series, besides IAD, and thought they were all great. With some of GS's series, after book 1 I don't want to go on (specifically the Alien Huntress series). So I'm calling KC the better of the two. At least for me. But again GS is great too.

message 27: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I agree that KC has a light edge of GS but I enjoy both their writing styles.
