The Storyteller
question
Should this be adapted into a film?

I was just having this same discussion on Facebook. I would very much like to see this wonderful novel turn into a movie. Who do you think should be the directors and who should play the characters?
I don't think they should... Purely because I don't think anyone can do justice to it. We don't want another disaster like "My Sister's Keeper" now do we :)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book, however, I don't know if a movie would do it justice. The characters have so many layers and I am not entirely sure they would be portrayed well on screen. I would watch the movie though, but then again, i don't want to be disappointed. If we were really going to have The Storyteller - the movie, I HOPE that people would read the book before watching the movie.
I think The Storyteller would be a great movie, depending on if Jodi Picoult would write the screenplay, and whose hands the screenplay would fall into, plus a myriad of other little miracles that would have to happen in order to adapt it to the big (or little) screen.
I would like to see the film adaptation of The Storyteller.
Having read the book ,my preference would likely be the print version..

I think if would be a super film if they could keep it as close to the novel as possible. Maybe they need to get Jodi Picoult to advise. I think when authors advise on the film, the movie turns out better than just having a screenwriter take over.
I would very much like this to be turned into a movie.
Personally, I would not be able to watch it. Reading the book and imagining the circumstances pushed me to the very edge. My imagination only allowed it to shock me *so much* and even that was traumatic enough - I think I would personally find the movie too distressing as I would have no limit on what I am witnessing, does that make sense?
I think, however - that people in this day and age (sadly) are more likely to go and watch a movie than pick up a big book like this. We need to educate people about these horrors. The Holocaust happened and we, as humans, need to ensure it just does not ever, ever happen again.

NO! it is the worst thing when hollywood movie people take a great book and turn it into a terrible movie, and i have a feeling they would have a hard time making this a great film
Absolutely. There has never been a more relevant time for us to address these issues and understand than man's inhumanity to man lurks near the surface...
I think this book should absolutely be made into a movie. Picoult is at her best. Too bad Jodie foster is to old to play the lead.
Yes, I would very much like to see The Storyteller being put on the big screen on the condition . . . it follows the book as its' script.
I think if it was done correctly i would love to see the things i imagined come to life, but really it was such a good book/story line that i don't feel that those who simply don't read should experience it. It is a story truly meant for pages not for a TV screen.
that's a tricky one; part of me does think it should be made into a movie and part of me thinks a movie won't do the book or genre any justice. i can see it more being made into a BBC 2-part film like Birdsong. it would definitely be a very harrowing film. i havent seen my sister's keeper but it doesnt look all that appealing. a film would be interesting as long as they keep to the book and don't try to change it. i think i'd find it too harrowing to watch though.
I really enjoyed this book and would be happy to see it turned into a movie.
No.
If they stick completely to the storyline, it won't be a good film - or at least, it will be lost amongst the "Holocaust film genre."
If they change the ending, the character names and other aspects for the film, people who love the book won't be pleased, and it still won't be a good film.
Perhaps a mini series that extends the "Will she/won't she" tension out over even two installments and allows the subject to be covered with its appropriate depth and sensitivity would be better than a 90 minute movie, but I still wouldn't rush to see it.

No, it should not be made into a movie. Hollywood tends to ignore the wishes/contracted agreements made between them and female authors. In my opinion, books by male authors tend to be honored more in the Hollywood scene. Possibly I think that because I have heard Picoult speak in Traverse City, Michigan at the City Opera House, she definitely has an opinion about how Hollywood did a number on her with My Sister's Keeper, so no. No movie.
I would love to see this as a movie providing they stuck to the book but since they would probably pull a 'My Sisters Keeper' with it my answer would probably have to be no.
I'm going to say 'No' to a movie purely because films like Schindler's List still don't feel dated. But I do think they should try and get 'The Storyteller' into schools in some format. It gives me All Quiet On The Western Front feels its that good.
I love love love this book. I actually wouldn't want to see it as a movie because there are many brutal bits that were written with sorrow with a heavy feeling, like a weight in the heart. I just can't stand gory movies, and yes I do agree it will be hard to do the book justice.
I am currently reading this book and would prefer not to see this made into a movie. I've seen a couple of her made for TV's and I also saw my sisters keeper and not one of them did the book any justice.
That would be interesting...I would rather see this in high school curriculum though. Where I am, I'd want this in gr.10 high school English class because we studied WWII too (and I learned so much more than that class in The Storyteller).
Yes,it would really be nice to see this book adapted to a movie. I just hope it won't get messed up like My Sister's Keeper.
I think it would be a wonderful movie, too. As long as the people who made the movie were talented enough to create a good movie! I think all of her books would make good movies!
