Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments This is my first time doing this. I am going to get some breakfast then start prepping my reading nest for the day. ☺

Written Melodies (writtenmelodies) | 12 comments Hi Lavender, this is my first readathon as well! Happy reading!

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments I am also on Facebook if anyone wants to add me over there.

message 4: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments Just about to start!

message 5: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments Taking a stretch break. I want to try to do that once an hour or so. Another cup of coffee sounds good too. What else is everyone doing to take a break between reading sprints?

message 6: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments Snacks so far, cinnamon bread with peanutbutter, some cereal with almond milk and an apple. I am going to try to take several micro naps throughout the day/night so I can stay up the whole time. What other strategies are folks using to stay awake? Besides caffeine?

message 7: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments Just about 8 hours in now. I am a little behind on what I had planned, but not terribly, I should be able to catch up. How is everyone else doing?

message 8: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments Partly caught back up. Almost time to start drinking coffee so I can attempt to stay up all night.

message 9: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments Just about halfway! I hope I can make it the whole time!

message 10: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments My eyes are getting droopy. Caffeine time!

message 11: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments Ok. I think I will only manage to stay awake until midnight. *yawn* 16 hours of reading isn't too bad though. ..

message 12: by Amy (new)

Amy | 187 comments 16 hours is fantastic! Congratulations!

I'd day 16 hours is an awesome achievement! I'm aiming for the full 24, but I won't hesitate to call it quits if I get too sleepy.

message 14: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments Here's to seeing if I can manage the full 24 hours this time. :-)

message 15: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments My current plan (and who knows what I will actually do on Saturday) is to switch back and forth between 3 different books. Legacies (Repairman Jack #2) by F. Paul Wilson, Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling and Taken at the Flood by Agatha Christie. Ideally I will finish all 3, but even if I can get 3/4 of the way through each, I am OK with that. I have a few comic books and such around for times when I need a break from my main books. I also have several shelves of physical books and a bunch of kindle books on my phone if i just feel like reading something else.

I've done before where I spent the first several hours reading the first chapter of 20+ books. So I think that there is something nice about switching up books like you're planning. Hope you have fun!

message 17: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments Maybe next time I will try the one chapter from na ton of books idea. I like that. Or switch off to a different book every hour. So far, I have stuck to my plan. I read from one physical book for a couple hours, then listened to an audio book for 1/2 hour. Took a break to run errands and have breakfast. Now I am on to book 2.

message 18: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments Another couple hours down. Time for a snack break. I have a small plate of veggies. Leftover spaghetti and meat sauce for later.

message 19: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments I have been switching between 2 physical books and an audio book. So far so good. The real test will be if I can continue much past midnight.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) | 137 comments Go Reader Go!!!! Hope you are enjoying all of your books.

Keep reading and have fun :)

message 21: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments Thanks! Nearly halfway through!

message 22: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments It is past midnight and I am still awake. Short stretch break, then listen to an audio book for a bit to rest my eyes before continuing.

Don't rest those eyes for too long! ;) Seriously, audio books are the best. I've been in a car all day and I'm so happy for them! ~Ashley

message 24: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments 2:30 am and I am running out of steam. I am going to push myself to stay up until 3am. 3 more hours than April at least. Good luck to those going for the long haul!

I'm on page 76 of Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare.

message 30: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments Ok, so my plan tonight is to make and eat dinner, take a nice bath (probably with an accompanying audio book), gather some light snacks and beverages, then read for a solid 3 or 4 hours before going to bed for the night. This is to kick start my brain into full read mode for the official start tomorrow 8am EST. #prereadathon

I may get up a bit earlier than 8am and start early Saturday because I am busy for a good chunk of the day. I am going to a zoo an hour away from home with several friends. I will bring a couple books with me to read in between hanging with the animals. Maybe I will read aloud to the bears or otters or something. If I can convince someone else to drive, I may be able to squeeze in some kindle time, too. Then in the evening, I should be free and clear to read until my eyes start to droop. #readathon

I do have to sleep because I have plans Sunday night. I will likely read a bit more on Sunday morning/early afternoon, just to cool down from Saturday. #postreadathon

message 36: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments OK, so I started strong on Friday doing a sort of pre-read-athon to get ready for the real thing. I was busy with other plans for a good portion of Saturday, but I read in the morning for a couple hours while getting ready for the day. When I got home Saturday late afternoon, I was planning on reading half the night, sleeping a few hours and finishing up early Sunday morning. Instead, I fell asleep super early Saturday night after not reading too much more and Sunday was pretty much a total wash. Oops...

message 37: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 73 comments So far I have read some of Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie and some of Wolves by C. Gockel. #readathon
