There's also The Norton Anthology of Short Fiction. Full of short stories from some of the best authors ever, with sections on writing and craft throughout. It's a book that makes you think, and also learn by example.

What is it about this book you liked? I'm always looking for new books to recommend on my blog. I'd love to know why if you want to share? Thanks

There's a few reasons. For one, the size is perfect for my handbag. I found that a lot of writing books are heavy and full of...fluff.
This is concise, well written and it give you the impression that it is possible for someone who isn't college educated, to write a book.

I wrote a book, soon to be published, entitled The Novel - A Writer's Guide - Discover the Joy of Writing Fiction. I've written 12 novels to date, so a lot of my own experiences are in it. If you would like to beta read it, please let me know.

Although there are quite a lot of books out there about the writing process, tips, tricks etc, the authors of these books don't seem to be particularly well-known/have many of their own fictional works published. I am particularly interested (if anything exists) in the historical fiction genre (I guess an equivalent to Stephen Kings On Writing). I love this genre but I'm struggling to find authors that both write it and write about the writing process.
Can anyone recommend any works/authors such as this?
