Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 64 comments Okay, who is going to book university and where?!?!

I think perhaps if I'm EVER going to read Proust, perhaps I can do it in Paris with mid-morning patisserie breaks. :D

I regret EVERY MINUTE I wasted in college on my music degree when I could have been reading! Gah.

I want world literature classes from every region. I'll start with Germany because people keep rattling off names like Thomas Mann and others I have never read.....

Elizabeth☮ I would like some classes in American Literature first. Some good Southern Gothic with Ron Rash guiding the way.

If I had to focus on another area of literature, it would be South American writers. How about a nice Amazon jungle surrounding while reading Borges, Allende and Fuentes?

I'm in for Proust in Paris, or any other French writer in Paris.

Lindy I'd like to attend a class in Canadian classics taught by Kate Beaton.

Lindy I liked Thomas' idea of a class in the history of publishing and bookmaking. I want it to be taught in two parts: at the Plantin-Moretus museum in Antwerp, and at the Printing Museum in Lyon, because they have such wonderful collections there.

It made me think of several bookprinting/bookbinding/bookarts classes I see advertised every year. These are definitely out there, Thomas, and you should splurge and give yourself a chance!

Elizabeth☮ My daughter is in Girl Scouts and they have a book artist patch that requires the student to study the various methods of book binding. I signed her up for a class, but it was cancelled because of low registration! We were both so excited to attend!

Anna Baillie-Karas | 9 comments I'd like to join the Iliad course in Athens please.

And the South American course - could we ask Juan Gabriel Vasquez to teach it? (*that voice*)... Milan Kundera as guest lecturer.

Then over to Hawaii where Obama will take us through Marilynne Robinson's 'Housekeeping' and 'Gilead'.

Could we create a safe haven in Russia for Masha Gessen, Pussy Riot and Gary Kasparov to teach the Russian classics and chess?

Finally to an English country house/inn for Wilkie Collins & co. 👌

Thank you for organising this Thomas and Simon!

Kathy Thomas, you mentioned that you recently bought a dozen or so books by Richmal Crompton. Assuming that these are all the volumes of the Just William stories, I strongly suggest that before you pick the first one up, you read Penrod (1912) by Booth Tarkington, published ten years before the first JW collection. You'll be amazed at the "similarities."

Thomas (thomasathogglestock) | 251 comments Kathy, actually they are her adult novels. I was a huge fan of the Family Roundabout reissue from Persephone.
