2018 Mount TBR Challenge Is Open

Thanks for sticking with me! As long as I have a mountain (or two or three or...) of TBR books to conquer, I'll keep hosting. Which probably means I'll be doing this challenge till I die (since I keep buying more and more books....).

Thanks Bev for the motivation in tackling the mountains!

I was able to read 5 of my 13 books last year and decided that I am just never going to get around to reading a couple of others.
I am hoping to find more success with this coming year's list.

Speaking from experience, that'll never happen! I've done this for 4 years, and my mountain is staying about steady! :-D

Dashed! my dreams have been dashed I tell you (wanders off sniggering :D)

You're welcome....as long as I keep building TBR mountains, there will be a Mount TBR Challenge. So, you can count on it for a good long while. :-)

It's a deal. Unless something drastic happens, I don't see me changing my book-buying ways anytime soon. And according to one of those nifty facebook thingys, given the number of unread books I have and the number of books I read per year, I currently have enough to last me about 7 years. And that's if I don't buy another book. :-)

Hmm I wonder if I want to know how long my books would last me, esp with the constant buying. Maybe I'll look for that counter...

Ugh, acording to my Goodreads TBR, I have books to last at least 9 years, but that includes to be released books, books I don't own yet and book series I haven't started. I own 500 or so from these, so I have books for 5-6 years at least! I managed to clean up a bit my shelves this year, giving away books I didn't like and dropping series I read the first book and disliked. I'm hoping to continue with this pace next year as well!

I used to have the same problem, just ut everything on the Want to Read shelf ... My ingenious solution was to create a new permanent shelf called (wait for it) "Mount TBR," which only holds unread books I already own. So every time I get a new one, it goes straight to the Mount TBR list, and I've retty much cleaned out the Want t Read shelf and moved all eligible books to the other one. Works surprisingly well!

We all forget, we Mount TBR types, that the song goes "climb ev'ry mountain," not "build lots and lots and lots more mountains"!
I did a TBR calculator thing a couple of years ago, and it suggested I had books enough *then* to last me to 2065.

ROTFL! Well now I really don't want to know the finer details of my TBR mountains.

Okay....I've apparently upped my intake of books since the last time I did this calculator. I now have enough books to last me 11 and 1/2 years (if I don't buy any more....).

Hil, you need to do some serious catching up...in the buying department! 20 months is nothing.

I really need to develop a formula with that included.

That's true Emily, but it would only work if someone is able to read more than they get in a year. For me that answer will be infinity. I can never finish reading all that I own or *will* own unless I change my ways.
This year I kept close track, and it really showed me how I am going backwards, the book collection is growing not shrinking. So far 2017 new books = 136 and read-owned = 50, net gain of 86 books. Now if I completely stopped reading library books too, that would help, the net gain number shrinks but it's still in the direction of will never catch up. And let's face it, there's all those new books about to be published every year. I don't mind this problem at all. I love books and reading! It's a great way to enjoy life :-)

Welcome back, Jo Ann!

So, I tried this calculator...it seems I'll need 11 years and 6 months to finish all the books I have both on Kindle and physical - I may be finished, if I don't buy any new books till then, on May 27, 2029.

You and me both, Natália. We seem to accumulate at the same rate. :-) All of mine are physical copies though.....
