Your mountaineering trip advisor is on the job and has opened the new site for the 2018 Edition of the Mount TBR Reading Challenge. You can find it here: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/....

Please remember to continue logging all 2017 climbing adventures here on the Mount TBR 2017 site.

Thanks for sticking with me! As long as I have a mountain (or two or three or...) of TBR books to conquer, I'll keep hosting. Which probably means I'll be doing this challenge till I die (since I keep buying more and more books....).

Jonathan | 100 comments I'll be climbing again. Thanks for piutting this together, Bev.

message 7: by Sam (new)

Sam (aramsamsam) Yay Beth! I'm in for a fourth trip up the mountain. My tbr is much smaller than when I first participated, though :)

message 8: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 76 comments Yes!! Made better progress this year then in the past, but it still isn't even close to the number of all the books I buy each year, let alone the piles of past years.

Thanks Bev for the motivation in tackling the mountains!

Well...here we go again.

message 11: by Jen (new)

Jen (bloomingjen) I am glad to hear this challenge is back.

I was able to read 5 of my 13 books last year and decided that I am just never going to get around to reading a couple of others.

I am hoping to find more success with this coming year's list.

Yep....an endless supply of mountains over here too.

Hilary (A Wytch's Book Review) (knyttwytch) I just wish I had found this a few years back, maybe ... just maybe I might have cleared more of the mountain range by now!

Speaking from experience, that'll never happen! I've done this for 4 years, and my mountain is staying about steady! :-D

You're welcome....as long as I keep building TBR mountains, there will be a Mount TBR Challenge. So, you can count on it for a good long while. :-)

It's a deal. Unless something drastic happens, I don't see me changing my book-buying ways anytime soon. And according to one of those nifty facebook thingys, given the number of unread books I have and the number of books I read per year, I currently have enough to last me about 7 years. And that's if I don't buy another book. :-)

message 20: by MichelleCH (new)

MichelleCH (lalatina) | 26 comments Thank you Bev for once again hosting! Always hopeful that I will conquer my TBRs. I love this challenge as it is a gentle reminder that I need to stop adding to my collection and start reading what I already have!

Catherine | 126 comments Sweeeeet. I'm in for the third year in a row. I do continue to add to my huge mountain, but this at least encourages me to read a lot of them.

Hmm I wonder if I want to know how long my books would last me, esp with the constant buying. Maybe I'll look for that counter...

message 25: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 126 comments The counter isn't my biggest problem. I read a lot of books per year already, and plan to read even more when I retire. My problem is the sheer lack of will power when it comes to buying more books.

Ugh, acording to my Goodreads TBR, I have books to last at least 9 years, but that includes to be released books, books I don't own yet and book series I haven't started. I own 500 or so from these, so I have books for 5-6 years at least! I managed to clean up a bit my shelves this year, giving away books I didn't like and dropping series I read the first book and disliked. I'm hoping to continue with this pace next year as well!

message 27: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 126 comments My current TBR list would last me about 7 years if I read at the same rate that I have the last few years. But I probably add almost as much as I read every year, so ... :(

message 28: by Meg (new)

Meg (makeli2) | 28 comments Lol, we are all sisters in this! Just before coming to GR I was on Az looking at the latest Kindle deals, just in case there were titles I just had to have...

I used to have the same problem, just ut everything on the Want to Read shelf ... My ingenious solution was to create a new permanent shelf called (wait for it) "Mount TBR," which only holds unread books I already own. So every time I get a new one, it goes straight to the Mount TBR list, and I've retty much cleaned out the Want t Read shelf and moved all eligible books to the other one. Works surprisingly well!

We all forget, we Mount TBR types, that the song goes "climb ev'ry mountain," not "build lots and lots and lots more mountains"!

I did a TBR calculator thing a couple of years ago, and it suggested I had books enough *then* to last me to 2065.

ROTFL! Well now I really don't want to know the finer details of my TBR mountains.

message 34: by Jessika (new)

Jessika (jessika_56) Haha, mine will only last me til 2025 :P

message 35: by Meg (new)

Meg (makeli2) | 28 comments Ok, couldn't resist so tried it out earlier. Looks like I'm good for another 11 years. That's IF I don't add any more books Which won't happen anytime soon... =)

Steven wrote: "Here, try this.... :) http://www.readitforward.com/tbr-time/"

Okay....I've apparently upped my intake of books since the last time I did this calculator. I now have enough books to last me 11 and 1/2 years (if I don't buy any more....).

message 37: by Meg (new)

Meg (makeli2) | 28 comments It's a sickness, I tell ya....

And I love it

Hilary (A Wytch's Book Review) (knyttwytch) apparently it would take me 20 months to read all mine ...... provided I didn't add any more!! (not gonna happen there are too many good books and authors out there!)

message 39: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 126 comments Mine is still about the same -- it would take me 6 and a half years to read my current pile. I think I actually did buy fewer books this year than last year, so at least that's something!

Meg (makeli2) | 28 comments Hilary S wrote: "apparently it would take me 20 months to read all mine ...... provided I didn't add any more!! (not gonna happen there are too many good books and authors out there!)"

Hil, you need to do some serious catching up...in the buying department! 20 months is nothing.

Hilary (A Wytch's Book Review) (knyttwytch) I know - but seeing as how I can get through over 300 books in a year .........................

message 43: by Jo Ann (new)

Jo Ann (packerbackerhere) | 9 comments 2018 TBR group challenge will be my 8th year here...each year gets better whether it be the books/authors or those who are here in the group; I love it that i can read anywhere i choose: home/bed, shopping mall, restaurants or waiting for an appointment. It is all possible now with the mobile app I have & my library is in the clouds - there for me 24/7! Everyone has their own reason for reading, for me it depends on what I am interested in at the time when I need to start my next book.

message 44: by Emily (new)

Emily (emilyesears) | 26 comments I've always felt that TBR calculator wasn't an accurate way to measure because there's no estimate for how many books you accumulate in a year.

I really need to develop a formula with that included.

Pamela | 76 comments Emily wrote: "I've always felt that TBR calculator wasn't an accurate way to measure because there's no estimate for how many books you accumulate in a year.

That's true Emily, but it would only work if someone is able to read more than they get in a year. For me that answer will be infinity. I can never finish reading all that I own or *will* own unless I change my ways.

This year I kept close track, and it really showed me how I am going backwards, the book collection is growing not shrinking. So far 2017 new books = 136 and read-owned = 50, net gain of 86 books. Now if I completely stopped reading library books too, that would help, the net gain number shrinks but it's still in the direction of will never catch up. And let's face it, there's all those new books about to be published every year. I don't mind this problem at all. I love books and reading! It's a great way to enjoy life :-)

You and me both, Natália. We seem to accumulate at the same rate. :-) All of mine are physical copies though.....
