Set your goal from the list below and track it by going to My Books> *shelf being used for this challenge*> Your Reading Activity> Reading Stats. I think this can only be done on the desktop version.

If you are on the app, https://www.goodreads.com/review/stats should show you your stats!

The levels for this reading challenge are as follows:

Dwarf Willow - Read 6,000 pages
Bonsai - Read 8,000 pages
Wooly Thyme Shrub - Read 10,000 pages
Hydrangea - Read 12,000 pages
Goldenrod Shrub - Read 15,000 pages
Money Tree - Read 18,000 pages
Fiddleleaf Fig - Read 24,000 pages
Norfolk Island Pine - Read 30,000 pages
Dwarf Peach - Read 36,000 pages
Eastern Redbud - Read 42,000 pages
Apple Tree - Read 48,000 pages
Sassafras - Read 54,000 pages
Oak - Read 60,000 pages
Poplar - Read 66,000 pages
Douglas Fir - Read 72,000 pages
Ponderosa Pine - Read 78,000 pages
Giant Sequoia - Read 84,000 pages
Mountain Ash - Read 90,000 pages
Redwood - Read 96,000 pages
Great Basin Bristlecone pine (Methuselah) - Read 108,000+ pages

As controversial as it may be, audiobooks will count for this challenge! When finished, just make sure you have an edition selected that has page numbers as some audiobook editions on goodreads have 0 pages.

My 2018 reading goal is Dwarf Peach! By the end of this year I will have probably read around 31,000 pages, including some audiobooks, so if I don't slack off, I think I can manage 36,000 in 2018. I am also going to make as many of those pages as I can come from books I own and have not read.
Happy Reading!

Samantha (sgiffin) | 3 comments Based on the other reading challenges I'm hoping to complete in 2018, my 2018 page reading goal should be Apple Tree (I've estimated about ~45k so far).

But, since I like a challenge, I'm going to make my official goal for the year a 60,000 page Oak.

I love the ambition! Maybe I need to challenge myself more . . . .

Jenna ✨DNF Queen✨Here, Sometimes... (jennabgemini) This is a really fun idea. I especially like the trees as categories!

When I look at what's in my TBR and what other challenges I'm in, I think that puts me around Dwarf Peach... so I'm going to stretch it to Apple Tree at 48,000 pages. That's a little intimidating haha but I love the idea of this type of challenge!

12/30 Update: after the category revisions, I'm going to put myself at Eastern Redbud for 42,000 pages. :)

Glad to have you participating Jenna!

If there is the demand in 2018 I can make the gaps between levels smaller. 12,000 pages is a rather wide gap but my reasoning was for everyone to get a feel for where they would be in 2018 and maybe close the gaps in 2019 to make it easier to have incremental goals.

message 7: by Lars (new)

Lars (herodotvonhalikarnassos) | 12 comments I honestly have no idea how many pages I can read, if I really give it a try. I'm finishing University in January and I'm interested in finding out how much reading I can manage on my own without having mandatory reading shoved down my throat. I'm aiming to be at least a fig tree, but I will see how far I can get.

I was shocked how much more I have been able to read since finishing college in May! I no longer feel guilty about reading books I want to over ones for school so more reading in general gets done.

message 9: by Wolf (Alpha) (new)

Wolf (Alpha) I'm going for Great Basin Bristlecone pine (Methuselah)
I hope to be able to read this or more.

message 10: by Anne (new)

Anne I'm a wimp who works a lot, so I'm opting for Fig Tree (because I need to reach my goal) with the desire to hit a Dwarf Peach. I'm participating in PopSugar for the first time as well.

message 11: by Shannon (last edited Dec 14, 2017 05:37AM) (new)

Shannon (dakterpeppir) With my guesstimates from the books I've planned for my reading challenges I'm at around 37,000 which is a little more than Dwarf Tree, so I'm going to try for Apple Tree.

Edit: Still think I'll attempt Apple Tree but more than likely I'll end up Eastern Redbud!

message 12: by Ivy (new)

Ivy (ivy_moland) | 1 comments Looking back at my stats it seems a Shrub has been growing this year and all previous years. So maybe I should challenge myself and grow a Fig tree next year. But I’m planing on doing the read harder challenge too, for the very first time. I will just have to pick bigger books next year, I think 😁

Happy to have you all!

I added a few intermediary levels to the challenge but the original core ones stayed the same for the most part. Feel free to edit your goal post or set a new goal if one of the other levels suits you better!

Jody (jodybell) | 5 comments So I've checked my stats for the last few years, and it seems I've been skimming the bottom of the branches of the Norfolk Island Pine, so I've decided to push myself to the top of it next year. 30,000 pages it is!

message 16: by Edie (new)

Edie | 8 comments Based on my reading this year, I made it to Dwarf Peach... closing in on Eastern Redbud which I will set as my goal for 2018. I plan to participate in the Read Harder and Popsugar Challenges. And one other 50 book challenge which one still TBD with some minimal double dipping across challenges, but not within a challenge. As I finish up my challenges for 2017 I am missing the flexibility to read something that doesn't check a box.

message 17: by Leona (new)

Leona (mnleona) | 1 comments I have no clue how many pages I read so will start with Dwarf Willow.

message 18: by Jill (new)

Jill This year I read over 49,000 pages, not counting audiobooks, so I am going to set my goal at Sassafras but shoot for Oak. Happy reading everyone!

message 19: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 1 comments I'm going to try for the Eastern Redbud and read at least 42,000 pages. That is a bit more than this year and this was a 'banner year' for my reading so fingers crossed I can achieve it!

message 20: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Oh boy,

I've just looked up the Norfolk Island Pine (since that's my goal for 2018) and apparently it's not an easy tree to maintain. Hopefully my target will not be so difficult.

message 21: by Yvette (new)

Yvette (morales13795) | 3 comments After seeing how many pages I read during the 2017 challenges, I was surprise how many pages I read. So for 2018, I am going to set my goal for the Goldenrod Shrub. Hopefully I will read more than the goal!

If you're looking for a good spreadsheet reading tracker, here's mine!

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

This isn't originally my spreadsheet but I did a lot of work to make it more usable. That being said, I recommend hiding columns you don't want to use instead of deleting!

Charity | 2 comments I'm going to try to make it to Eastern Redbud. Considering I only read less than 2000 pages last year... that's going to be a jump!

Edie | 8 comments My 8892 pages so far takes me Bonsai. I am on track to meet my goal of Dwarf Peach (and perhaps get to Eastern Redbud).
Some of the books I have enjoyed along the way:
Word by Word by Kory Stamper
In the Midst of Winter by Isabel Allende
The Second Mrs. Hockaday by Susan Rivers
Desperation Road by Michael Ferris Smith
Serena by Ron Rash
Pachinko by Min Jin Lee

message 30: by Clayton (new)

Clayton Brannon | 1 comments My goal is 30,000 pages. I wish there was a way to track words read. Many books I read have a large number of words per page. A book that is sometimes no more than 300 or 500 pages will be the equivalent of some large print books that will show many more pages. Another problem is some books have hundreds of pages at the end that should not count. Ignore me I just get frustrated at not being able to get accurate account of how much we all actually read.

message 31: by Anne (new)

Anne This has been great so far! I'm at 50,400 [ages -- an apple tree! I was hoping for the Norfolk Island Pine, but surpassed that.

message 32: by Claire (new)

Claire I have reached my goal some time ago. At this point I am at 158.000 pages and the great Badin Bristlecone Pine.

message 34: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (dakterpeppir) I made it to Eastern Redbud!!! A little over 42,000 pages right now. I've gotten bogged down with some not so fun books I really wanted to get through and I lost focus. Hopefully I pick so better books and kick it into overdrive for the remainder of 2018!!

message 35: by Anne (new)

Anne My goal was to push for Dwarf Peach -- 36,000 pages -- but I pushed through to Sassafras -- 54,000 pages! Wowsers!!
