Sarah (sasstel) | 0 comments I’m hoping I’ll finally get around to reading Middlesex in 2018. I’m pretty sure that was an OBC read at some point.

I read Stolen Lives years ago. It was so sad but so compelling!

message 6: by D.L. (new)

D.L. Open House by Elizabeth Berg. My mom owns it so I can just borrow it :)

It was & it's really good! If you do choose this one, I hope you like it as much as I did!

message 8: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 129 comments It just so happens that I'm leading a read-along of Anna Karenina in January, so that makes this prompt a no brainer. Now I just have to get through the book!

Deep End of the Ocean. It was her first book for the book club.

message 11: by Kate (new)

Kate | 116 comments I think I am going to take this opportunity to finally read something by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Opinions on One Hundred Years of Solitude vs. Love in the Time of Cholera?

message 12: by Ann (new)

Ann (annshow) Finally going to read East of Eden

message 13: by Jenica (new)

Jenica (jenicadawn) | 11 comments Song of Solomon is also on my 18 to Read in 2018 list I made for myself and it's an Oprah pick so that was easily sorted!

message 14: by Kris (new)

Kris (reddest_rose) | 7 comments I just got my hands on Behold the Dreamers so that's my likely choice

Libby Anstis | 1 comments Kate wrote: "I think I am going to take this opportunity to finally read something by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Opinions on One Hundred Years of Solitude vs. Love in the Time of Cholera?"

Love in the Time of Cholera - such a beautiful read. One of my favourite books of all time.

Bobby | 197 comments Here is a complete list of the selections: https://static.oprah.com/images/o2/20...

This may be the simplest challenge yet, because the list is finite and there is no ambiguity about whether a book fits the category!

Two of the titles that I've been wanting to read for a while are The Bluest Eye and Sula, both by Toni Morrison.

message 17: by Riah (new)

Riah | 79 comments I'm probably going to read Behold the Dreamers for this. Other Oprah books I haven't read yet but am interested in are Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, Night, and The Poisonwood Bible. For anyone who hasn't read it yet, I would definitely recommend Sula as well.

I've read so many of these! I have to say: Fall on Your Knees was one of my favorites. Highly recommend.

Catie (catieohjoy) | 35 comments I’m finally going to get to The Underground Railroad for this task.

message 21: by Kristi (new)

Kristi | 6 comments Was The Hate U Give an Oprah Book Club selection? I see it was on the "O, The Oprah Magazine" best of 2017 list... Does that count? It's been on my TBR for quite a while now.

message 22: by Erophilie (new)

Erophilie | 6 comments Kate wrote: "I think I am going to take this opportunity to finally read something by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Opinions on One Hundred Years of Solitude vs. Love in the Time of Cholera?" Love in the Time of Cholera for sure.

message 24: by Angelica (last edited Dec 30, 2017 05:33AM) (new)

Angelica | 17 comments Caught between Here on Earth and A Fine Balance -- but I can use A Fine Balance for a couple of my other tasks, so I think I'm leaning toward the Hoffman here.

message 25: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Michaels | 15 comments My son has been on me to read The Road since he read it for English class. That will be my choice

message 26: by Kireja (new)

Kireja (heartlandcountry) I really enjoyed Sue Monk Kidd's A Secret Life of Bees, so i'll be reading The Invention of Wings.

This is what I'm hoping to do...It's been in my TBR pile for some time, so I am glad to have an extra nudge to dive into it!

message 30: by Min Blossoms (last edited Jan 03, 2018 02:03PM) (new)

Min Blossoms (min-blossoms) I'll do Breath, Eyes, Memory. It's been on my TBR. I skimmed the GR Oprah list, and saw that I've only read about five. Bill Cosby is on there, though. *shudders*

Behold the Dreamers was great - and I highly recommend the audio.

message 38: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa To everyone thinking of reading East of Eden, do it! It’s long but in a way that makes it worth it.

Poisonwood Bible and House of Sand and Fog are also very good.

By luck, my first book of the year was Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, which I loved and belatedly remembered was an Oprah book.

Yikes... it might be One Hundred Years of Solitude, after reading all these "hated"s combined with a few reviews of Love in the Time of Cholera. Thanks, all!

Off the top of my head I would note The Road (a western and classic of genre fiction) and A Fine Balance (Brics and post colonial), The Measure of a Man (celebrity memoir) I am sure there are tons of others.
