last I saw on his twitter he was talking with Henry Kissinger about stuff such as Yom Kippur and geopolitical/historical matters.

I am too much of a skeptic for social media.
Evidently...a most involved and busy man.
None the less, Im going to "try" and ask.

I personally don't think many authors play around online much less this website. After all the web is mind-clobbering. The authors I think are 'here' are 'represented' by various agents and marketing lackeys and flacks.

But boy! I'd give my eye-teeth to chat with Kissinger about the Mayaguez incident. Drool!

I would not call him a personal friend.
Not sure he would agree with Kissinger's account of the SS Mayaguez tragedy. Some believe he pressed Ford to act -too hard to fast.
I agree with everything you wrote.. Im sure he has no interest playing on GR.
Quite a busy author and journalist.
Yet on the flip side, if I were an author, I would keep insurance on my fan base.
Readers can "sometimes" be emotional :) and a tad fickle.
Given the world climate these days, one simple slip of a word during an interview or in an article, could turn his readers off on a dime.
Gonna try anyway.
No downside.

Glad to hear HK is still active and busy and engaged in politics. I would be shocked if someone of his caliber 'took the internet seriously'. He's a real scholar; a real world-shaker. Surprised he hasn't been retained as an ongoing advisor somewhere. Maybe he has, I don't know. Anyway thanks Stacey. This is fascinating. (No, I don't have any slant of my own on Mayaguez, I'd just be keen to hear how it went down from any of the insiders involved).

Yep, authors and audiences. I think its clear from the last few years of scandals and meltdowns, that authors should not be too friendly with their readers. Leads to shipwreck!

Roger, those lackeys and henchmen require a hefty marketing budget. Whoever publishes Ken Follett can afford to impersonate him with an online entourage! You probably have kids to put through college!
